Applying Mohair to your doll for a permanent wig

Here is a quick photo guide to how I apply mohair directly to my doll's head. It is pretty much the same way as I make my mohair wigs, but without the wig cap. I will be using Ellowyne as my model.

First, I cut off all the doll's hair. I cut down the stubs are far as possible, but do not remove them completely as I did when I made my mohair wig. The reason for this is that I find the mohair adheres much better when there is something for the glue to grab onto. I do not "bald" the doll as I found that the glue holding the mohair eventually lifted from the smooth heads. The problem with leaving the stubs however, is that if the hair is very different in color from the mohair, it could show around the edges if you are not careful. You can always remove the perimeter stubs if you prefer. Another less conventional method would be to carefully paint around the edges of the hairline in a shade that matches the new mohair. I haven't actually done this, but it seems like it would work well to disguise the leftover stubs.

My Ellowyne has blond hair, which is not far in color from the honey blond mohair I am using, so I am applying the mohair as shown below.

I use the same two glues as I did in my mohair wig tutorial, FabriTac and Aleene's Brush on Tacky Glue. See above.

Then I cut off the mohair locks from the skin and lay them out ready to apply to my doll. I start at the back hairline and apply a line of glue.

I will apply most of the mohair with FabriTac glue. Then, I work my way around the head in a circle.
